New Shoes

I got new running shoes the other day.  I'm so pumped about trying them out.  I haven't run consistently in years.  I still love it immensely, but struggle to find the time to do it.  Hopefully having new, comfy, squishy shoes will help.  In case your curious, I got the New Balance 767's, my fifth generation of this shoe.  JM

Competition

Competition can be such a great motivator. I've been trying to start running again. I really want to. I love to run. This morning I woke up, though, and just laid in bed. I didn't go run. I just had no motivation to do it. I walk into work today, and my boss tells me about a race that he's going to do and that we want to challenge some of our students to do because it will benefit a great women's ministry in our area.
So competition reared its ugly head and I decided that I need to race against him and crush him into the ground. So hopefully tomorrow I will wake up and run. We'll see.

Waking Up Early

I keep trying to wake up early so I can go run, but it hasn't been working out. Hopefully that will change starting tomorrow. I'm going to try some of the stuff I read on this post about 24 tips to becoming an early riser. We'll see how it goes. I'd like to wake up every day at like 6:30. It's just so tough. JM

Running In The Heat

Yeah, it gets hot down here. For some reason today I had the brilliant idea to go for a run at like 2:30. Full sun. No clouds. 96 degrees. I haven't run in probably a month, and this is the day and time that I choose to run. I didn't make it all the way. I only ran 24:00 and I was trying to make it 30:00. I walked the last part. It was either that or die.
I'll have to try to run in the mornings, it's just too hot later on in the day. Hopefully I can get fairly consistent at running every day and then I can run the Peachtree City Classic. It's supposed to be a really cool race. JM

Workout Change

I think I'm going to change what I've been doing at the gym (like actually start going). I've been going fairly consistently and I really enjoy it, but I need to start running again, and have like zero motivation to do it for some reason, which is weird because I love doing it. It helps me think about things deeper than I normally do. I have been doing 2 sets of 12 reps 3 days a week on all of the exercises I do. But now I think I'm going to go down to 2 days a week and do 3 sets of 10 reps. It should accomplish about the same thing, build mainly endurance with a little bit of mass, but just going two days a week will almost force me to run on the other days so I won't feel like a pathetic loser who just sits around and does nothing.

Running

So I actually ran today. It's been like at least a month since I ran last. I did 3 miles in 28:55. Mile times were 9:49, 9:41, 9:25. I stopped halfway through because Ryan Momberger wanted to talk to me. So after about 10 minutes I started running again. My legs were tight after that, but it didn't mess me up too bad. It just felt good to run again. JM

Run 9

I ran 3.0 miles today in 35:41 or something like that. My heart rate got up to 159 at the end, but the other times I checked it was under 150.
Week - 3.00 miles - 35:41
Month - 3.00 miles - 35:41
Year - 20.76 miles - 4:05:41

Run 8

I ran 2.52 miles in 30:00 minutes this afternoon. My heart rate stayed really low too. The highest I ever saw it was 156. So at least there's some improvement.
Week - 2.52 miles - 30:00
Month - 15.83 miles - 3:10:00
Year - 17.76 miles - 3:30:00

Run 6

I'm starting to have a little bit of ITB pain, but I think I can resolve that with stretching. Still no patellar tendonitis pain. I ran 2.52 miles in 30:00.
Week - 7.53 miles - 90:00
Month - 10.80 miles - 130:00
Year - 12.80 miles - 150:00

Run 5

This was actually last night, but I forgot to record it. I did 2.51 miles in 30:00. My heart rate is still higher than I would like (158), but I don't want to slow down anymore. I'm just not going to add any speed until I get it to stay down around 150. I'll just add time.
Week - 5.01 miles - 60:00
Month - 8.28 miles - 100:00
Year - 10.28 miles - 120:00
JM

Run 4

Forgot to post my run from last night. I'm way behind on my mileage, but I'm running when I can and trying to not get injured. Still feel great and have no patellar tendonitis pain.
Week - 2.50 miles - 30:00 minutes
Month - 5.77 miles - 70:00 minutes
Year - 7.77 miles - 90:00 minutes

Run 3

Went for a run in the neighborhood this morning. Nice weather. Good time.
Week - 3.27 - 40:00
Month - 3.27 - 40:00
Year - 5.27 - 60:00

Run 2

Monday morning I ran for the second time this year. I was able to keep it a lot slower and keep my heart rate down where I wanted it in the mid 150's. I ran at 5.0 mph, which is 12:00/mile pace. Ended up running for 20 minutes and ran 1.67 miles. So:
Week - 1.67 - 20:00
Month - 1.67 - 20:00
Year - 3.67 - 40:00

Day 1

Today was the first day that I ran in 2007. Not a good sign, especially since I want to run 1,000 miles this year. I ran 1.93 miles tonight. Not a lot. I wasn't running to distance, I was running to time - 20:00. Slow, I know, but not slow enough. My heart rate was running in the mid 160's. I'd like to keep it in the low 150's. Next time I'll have to adjust my pace to match that. I think what I'll start doing is posting my weekly, monthly, and yearly mileage and time in each running post.
A little background on my running. I've run off and on for about 10 years now. I've never taken it seriously for more than 6 months at a time. My PR's are pathetic. The closest I come to respectable is a 5k in 22:27. In the fall of 2003 I was running 40 miles a week and able to run 21:00 or so for 5k. I was training for a half marathon with a goal time of 1:40:00. Then I got patellar tendonitis, moved, had a kid, and got fat. So we'll see how I do this time around. Hopefully this will be a form of accountability for me.
